Common questions

We understand that you may have questions as you start using artist.tools. Here are some of the most common questions we receive, along with answers to help you get the most out of the platform.

What does artist.tools do?

artist.tools is an all-in-one platform designed to help artists, curators, labels, and industry professionals make smarter decisions about Spotify playlists. Here's what you can do:

  • For Artists: Detect if you're in botted playlists, find legitimate playlists to pitch to, track your playlist placements over time, and avoid artificial growth that could harm your reputation and algorithmic visibility.

  • For Curators: Optimize your playlists for Spotify search (SEO), research high-growth keywords to increase visibility, track competitor playlists, monitor playlist health, and grow your follower base through organic search discovery.

  • For Labels & PROs: Analyze artist performance across playlists, detect fraud and suspicious activity, monitor catalog placements, and generate reports on streaming trends.

Bottom Line: artist.tools helps you make data-driven decisions about Spotify playlists—whether you're pitching your music, building your playlist audience, or protecting your catalog from fraudulent placements.

How do I get started?

  1. Head to artist.tools and create an account using Google, Email, or Facebook login

  2. Once logged in, you'll land on your Dashboard—your personal hub for tracking artists, playlists, and tracks

  3. From there, choose your primary workflow:

How do I check if I'm in a botted playlist?

Go to the Search page and paste your Spotify Artist Profile URL (right-click your profile in Spotify > Share > Copy link).

You'll be taken to your artist page, where a banner at the top will show if you're currently in any botted playlists. It'll display either: "In 0 botted playlists" or "In X botted playlists" depending on what we detect.

Important: Even one botted playlist can negatively impact your Spotify algorithmic profile, reduce your visibility in Discover Weekly and Release Radar, and potentially result in withheld royalties. Monitor regularly and take action immediately if you're flagged.

What do I do if I'm in a botted playlist?

If you suspect you're in a botted playlist, take these steps:

  1. Report the playlist to your distributor or label with a note that you did NOT ask to be on this playlist

  2. Report the playlist using Spotify's Playlist Reporter Form—this is the official method and tells Spotify not to penalize you if fraudulent streams are later detected

  3. If possible, reach out to the curator directly and ask them to remove you (respectfully)

  4. Document everything—take screenshots of the bot detection alerts

Being linked to artificial growth can harm your visibility and reputation on Spotify, so act quickly.

My playlist was wrongfully marked as botted. What can I do?

If you believe your playlist was incorrectly flagged as botted, you can appeal:

  1. Gather evidence of legitimate growth, such as:

    • Spotify for Artists follower growth analytics showing organic patterns

    • Proof of active promotion (e.g., social media posts, collaborations, influencer partnerships)

    • Documentation of your curation efforts (consistent track updates, community engagement, etc.)

    • Evidence of external traffic sources (Instagram followers, newsletter subscribers, etc.)

  2. Submit your playlist link and supporting evidence through our support channel

  3. Our team will review your case manually and determine if the flagging was in error

Pro Tip: The more documentation you provide, the faster we can review and resolve your case. Include specific dates of growth spikes, marketing campaigns, or events that drove followers to your playlist.

How do I submit to playlists?

We're more like a contact directory than a direct submission site. Here's the workflow:

  1. Go to the Playlist Search page

  2. Use the search bar to type in a genre, mood, similar artist, etc.

  3. Use the Contacts filter to choose how you want to submit (email, Instagram, SubmitHub, Groover, etc.)

  4. We automatically filter out botted playlists—you'll only see real, active ones with engaged audiences

  5. Click a playlist, go to the Contacts tab, and you'll see submission options—visit their submission link, reach out on Instagram, or send a personalized email using our pre-filled template

You'll need the Artist Access plan to unlock full contact details, but you can still identify which playlists have contact info on the free plan.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel anytime through your account settings:

  1. Log in to your account at app.artist.tools

  2. Go to Settings > Billing (or visit app.artist.tools/settings/billing directly)

  3. This connects to your Stripe dashboard, where you have full control over your subscription

  4. Click Cancel Subscription and confirm

  5. You'll receive a confirmation email immediately

What happens after cancellation? Your subscription will end at the end of your current billing cycle. You'll retain access to your account until that date. After cancellation, you'll revert to the Free plan but keep your saved data (dashboards, folders, etc.).

Can I get a refund?

Refund eligibility depends on your situation:

  • Recent Accidental Purchase: If you just purchased a plan and haven't used it, contact our team immediately—we're happy to refund and cancel for you

  • Unsatisfied with Service: Reach out to our support team to discuss your concerns. Many issues can be resolved with a quick conversation or trial of specific features

  • Billing Error: If you were charged unexpectedly, report it right away and we'll investigate

  • Annual Plans: If you purchased an annual plan but want to cancel within the first period, contact support—we handle these on a case-by-case basis

All refund requests must be handled by our support team. Contact us with your account email and the reason for your refund request.

Pro tip: We offer a Free plan so you can try the core features before upgrading. If you're not sure whether a paid plan is right for you, downgrade to the Free plan instead of canceling—you'll keep your data and can upgrade anytime.
